Coffee Baristas Charged with Prostitution

In Washington State, the home of Starbucks and Seattle’s Best, five coffee baristas were charged with prostitution.  For two months police investigated Everett’s Grab N’ Go Espresso Stand after several complaints that the bikini-clad baristas would expose themselves to customers for extra tips.  Customers were allowed to touch employee’s breasts and rear end for an additional charge.  Also reported were allegations of a whip cream “shows” between some of the female Grab N’ Go employees.  The girls (ages 18-24) would charge $20-$80 per show.

Grab N’ Go isn’t the only coffee stand called into the police.  At least 40 other complaints about lewd conduct from various coffee stands were reported this year.  Grab N’ Go was sought out because it received the most complaints out of all the stands in question.  The most shocking fact was that customers would pay the baristas for naked photos.  It gets very cold and wet in Washington.  I’d think that would get a little uncomfortable!

Starbucks reveals “Via” on National Coffee Day

Whether you knew it or not, September 29th is National Coffee Day!  Coffee fans from around the nation are celebrating their love of the world’s greatest beverage.  Over 400 billion cups of coffee are consumed each year, and on National Coffee Day many places are ready to give away free cups at no expense to you.

Starbucks is taking National Coffee Day as an opportunity to unveil its new instant coffee called “Via Ready Brew”.  The product comes in cute packages (similar to Crystal Lite On the Go) and is a perfect to discreetly place in a purse or briefcase.  Starbucks says it took 20 years to come up with the perfect instant brew.  Though revolutionary, Taster’s Choice and General Food International already have a delicious line of instant coffee available in single serving packages.   Next year, Via will also be available in grocery stores. Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz expressed, “Based on the success we’ve had, we feel strongly that we’re sitting on a very big opportunity. What’s going to sell Via at the end of the day is that (it) delivers in the cup. Most people will not be able to tell the difference.”

The Hidden Calories in Specialty Coffees

I don’t normally drink much coffee but recently I’ve needed the caffeine to wake me up in the mornings for work. There is a Starbucks close to me and so one day I decided to try the White Chocolate Mocha that was recommended to me by the barista.

I was in paradise instantaneously upon drinking this coffee, it reminded me of all the most delicious hot drinks I have ever had combined into one. I decided everyday to wake myself up with my much needed white chocolate mocha coffee until I decided to do a little research.

I had started a food journal and needed to write down how many calories they were in this delightful drink. I nearly had a heart attack when i found out, 750!!!

750 calories in a coffee? When my daily intake was only meant to be 1500?? Well, I had to give that coffee up. If I was going to be consuming 750 calories in one go, I’d rather a nice big cupcake!

the caffeine debates: good or bad?

Caffeine is a bitter white substance which acts a stimulant drug. Described as such, it has a negative connotation which we really don’t have to see in our morning cup of coffee. But really, coffee and caffeine has become a big part of our lives. And because of this, debates on the pros and cons of caffeine as become a constant battle that issued a great deal of confusion especially for coffee lovers who are also concerned about their health.

On the positive note, studies show that regular consumption of caffeine reduces the risk of having Parkinson’s disease. It is also linked to protecting the body against gallstones and enhances wakefulness. Caffeine and coffee also help in improving moods, temporary enhance stamina and relieve headaches.

But caffeine can in fact interfere with a lot of aspects of one’s health. Sleep patterns are usually disturbed if you take coffee or other caffeinated drinks before bedtime. Some studies also suggest that fertility rates and miscarriages are negatively affected by as little as a cup of coffee per day.

So it is always good to take things in moderation, more coffee intake does not mean better effects, on the other hand, it might only produce negative effects.
