Origin Of coffee
The history of coffee is a complex one. It is said that it was the Arabs who discovered coffee first.The Italians introduced caffe to Europe in the 1600s. Thomas Johnson added the seeds to the 1633 edition of The Herbal calling the fruit Buna “…easily divided into two parts…each a kernel longish and flat upon one side, of a yellowish colour and acide taste. They say that in Alexandria they make a certaine very cooling drinke hereof.”
The stimulant became fashionable throughout Europe. By the late seventeenth century, the drink was enjoyed under numerous names—English coffee, French and Spanish café, German koffee, Finnish kahvi, Dutch koffie, Swedish and Norwegian kaffe, Russian kofe, Polish kawa, and even Yiddish kave.
As the drink traveled around the world, it was given more names—Japanese koohii, Malay kopi, Mayan kaape, Thai gafae, Tagalog (Philippine) kape, Punjabi (India) kaafii, Hindi kofii, Hopi kaphe, and Navajo gohwééh—all phonetic derivations from the Arabic qahwah.
Linnaeus really did not have much of a choice but to Latinize the name to Coffea [cof' fee]. The species was given the epithet, arabica, for everyone ‘knew’ the trees grew in Arabia. While the world believed coffee came from Arabia, the Arabian name appears to have been for the origin, the Kaffa district of Ethiopia.
Coffee and its accessories for Christmas gifts
Coffee is an excellent idea for Christmas gifts. Especially for coffee lovers. I love coffee and most of my friends know it. I can get a box of Gevalia coffee with accessories, gift cards to coffee houses and all the different accessories for coffee that are out there.
I think I have at least one of every coffee cups from Starbucks that has been and is currently out there. When I was in California and went to Pete’s coffee, they had a lot of unusual accessories. For example, there were hand painted dishes and coffee cups. I found that to be a little different to be displayed in a coffee house for sale. I see that in dept. stores, but not in a coffee house.
As much as I love Gevalia coffee, I alsways see them advertising their coffee pots, but I don’t have one as of yet. Maybe I need to put that on my Christmas list this year.
I am the only person that drinks coffee at my house and my husband surprised me with a 1 cup coffee maker last Christmas. I absolutely love it! I no longer have to make a pot a coffee and feel obligated to try and drink all of it so that it won’t waste. I just use a pod for 1 cup and I’m off!
I’m sure I will get some type of coffee gift for Christmas again this year….great idea!
How to make coffee
I know this sounds silly. The whole blog is about coffee and I’m how to make coffee. But there are people out there who doesnt know how to do it. This post is for them.
Materials required:
A steel bowl or vessel, tea powder or coffee powder,sugar,water,milk(optional).
Steps:
Boil the water in a vessel.
Once it starts boiling, add some tea or coffee powder and stir well. Take care to switch off the flame or stop heating after you add the powder. Now pour some milk into it. Add some sugar. Wait for 5 minutes and pour the tea. Simple as that!!
Cookie Cup for coffee
Some days ago, i wrote an article about the coffee lens created by the famous coffee company Lavazza. Now again this company, after working very hard to create and to design new products for the gastronomy, they created something funny to be served with our coffee called Cookie Cup !!! Gevalia coffee
Gevalia is a coffee brand I was introduced to by a co-worker in the early 1990’s. I thought it was the best coffee I have ever tasted. As a matter of fact, it is still the best coffee I have ever tasted!
My friend told me that you have to order it on line. They do not sell it in the stores. I never purchased it, I only get it when I go over to my friend’s house. She has bought me some as a gift a few times, but like I said, I never purchased it on my own.
I am the only person in my house that drink coffee so it would be a waste to make a full pot of coffee and it all would not be gone by the end of the day. I typically drink just one cup a day in the morning, so I wouldn’t want to waste coffee that taste so good.
