Roasting Coffee Beans At Home
Roasting green coffee beans is easy to do at home, and can be a fun thing to try if you have never done so before. You can roast the beans using a frying pan/skillet, or roast the beans in the oven.
To roast the coffee beans in a skillet on the stove, you will need a large skillet and a large spoon for stirring. Heat the pan on the stove to about 350 degree. You can use an oven thermometer to test the heat in the pan. Add the green coffee beans to the pan and stir. You will need to keep stirring s as to prevent beans from sticking and scorching.
Continue stirring the beans until they reach the darkness you want. This will generally take about eight minutes for a lighter color, to about 15 minute for the darkest color.
When the beans reach the color you want, turn off the heat and remove the pan from the stove. Splash a little cold water over the beans, and transfer them to a cooling tray or metal colander. Place the beans by an open window to help them cool off.
Store the beans out of light, but not in the refrigerator. An airtight glass jar is good for storing the warm beans, but be careful to let the beans completely cool off, about 12 hours, before sealing the lid tightly.
