Green Coffee
I’m so glad to see more and more companies and people getting more serious about this going green thing. I personally think we all need to step things up in order to help save our planet, after all it is the only one we have. Well Wal-Mart is continuing to do their part as a eco-conscious retailer. They are launching six “green” coffees under their brand Sam’s Choice. The line will include a Fair Trade Certified House Blend, Espresso Roast and French Roast, Rainforest Alliance Certified Breakfast Blend whole bean and ground coffee, and a USDA Organic Swiss Water Process Decaffeinated.
The senior vice president and general merchandise manager for Wal-Mart said “If each of Wal-Mart’s 200-million shoppers bought one 10-oz. bag of Sam’s Choice Rainforest USDA Certified organic coffee, it would prevent 133 million pounds of fertilizers and chemicals from being released into the environment.” I hope people will truly think twice about their coffee choices now that a more eco-friendly version is available. Granted it might not be Starbucks but saving the planet is better than having whip cream and all the extras on your coffee, not to mention the amount of money you will save buying this brand.

I find it very interesting that your article mentioned Walmart going green on the coffee front when Walmart has been fined over several millions of dollars for there enviromental problems that they have long since ignored, including but not limited to having the chemicals and fertilizers from their stores that they store on the driveways leak toxins into the streams and stormdrains when it rains. I agree with your article on more going Green and coffee is another great way to do this but Walmart is no hero here. They have just found yet another way to make some money and are cashing in on it as the toxins from the same products flow into our rivers and streams from there stores.
