The discovery of coffee

The culture of drinking coffee has its beginnings in the second century. It was then that he began to import, first imported from the cradle to Saudi coffee in Ethiopia. The Persians were surprised by the effects of this new stimulating “wine of Islam” and that wine is strictly forbidden for Muslims. The origin of the word “coffee” comes from the ancient Arabic “qahwah.”

In the second half of the XV century, coffee spread to the Kingdom of Saudi via Mecca and Medina, and continued until reaching Cairo in 1510. In the first half of the XVI century, the Kingdom of Osmanic peaked. Coffee played an important role in Arabia, Asia Minor, Syria, Egypt and South Eastern Europe. The first coffee shops were opened in Damascus and Aleppo in 1530 and 1532.
